About Us
We are a small ayahuasca center in the Peruvian Amazon, created for people who are looking for something real: authentic healing traditions, personal care, and a deep connection with nature.
We are not a luxury resort, and we do not try to turn this work into a polished spiritual product. What we offer is something simpler and, we believe, more valuable: an honest space where ancestral medicine is served with respect, humility, and care. Our work is guided by experienced Amazonian healers, supported by family, facilitators, and guardians who help hold the space with sincerity and devotion. This balance of tradition, safety, and human warmth is at the heart of everything we do.
Our Story
The roots of La Luna del Amazonas go a long way back, when local medicine men & woman was working from a small village clinic known as El Consultorio. What began as a humble place of healing for local people slowly grew, as more and more people came seeking help from the plants, the prayers, and the wisdom carried by the healers.
In 2016, that original seed expanded into what is now La Luna del Amazonas: a retreat space with private rooms, a traditional maloka, and an intimate healing circle for guests from Peru and around the world. Though the space has grown, the heart of the work has remained the same: to serve the medicine with seriousness, reverence, and fidelity to the traditions from which it comes.
The name came in a moment of silence after ceremony, when Enrique sat watching the moon above the jungle canopy and saw clearly what this place was meant to be: La Luna del Amazonas. Since then, the moon has remained our emblem, a symbol of quiet light, mystery, and transformation.
Our mission
Our mission is simple: to preserve and share the ancestral wisdom of ayahuasca with integrity, humility, and devotion.
We believe ayahuasca should be approached with respect. In a time when many retreats mix different plants, techniques, and modern spiritual trends, we choose a more traditional path. We do not believe in creating a “spiritual buffet.” We believe in going deeper with one plant, one current, one sacred relationship. For us, ayahuasca is not entertainment. She is a teacher, and she deserves reverence.
At the same time, tradition and safety must walk together. Every guest completes a health screening before arrival. Contraindications are reviewed carefully. Our ceremonies are supported by experienced facilitators, and a staff member trained in first aid is present at every ceremony. Because we are located on the river, transport to Iquitos is possible in less than an hour if ever needed.
How We Hold the Space
Healing at La Luna is not carried by one person alone. It is held by a circle.
Our shamans prepare the medicine, lead ceremonies, and sing the icaros. Facilitators help guests feel oriented and supported. Guardians maintain a quiet protective presence throughout the night. Our support team nourishes everyone with food, care, and attention to the practical details that make deep work possible. Together, these roles create the container in which healing can unfold.
Healing with Respect for Tradition
Modern medicine often treats symptoms in isolation, creating customers rather than cures. True healing, however, must embrace the whole. This is where Ayahuasca and Amazonian shamanism reveals mastery.
In the way of Amazonian shamanism, healing touches every level of our being: body, mind and spirit, as all are deeply interconnected.
Our team of native shamans and international facilitators are dedicated to supporting every participant on their personal journey. As we work in small groups, the shamans can focus on healing, energy work, and deep ceremonial guidance rather than simply serving medicine and sing songs.
Each ceremony includes a personal limpieza (energetic cleanse) and Arcana (spiritual protection).
The shamans are guardians of an ancient lineage, carrying wisdom passed down through generations and we honor these traditions with fidelity. While we adapt to meet the needs of international guests, we never distort or commercialize the medicine. Ayahuasca is not entertainment; it is a sacred teacher. The shamans role is not only to serve medicine but to act as intermediaries between the physical and spiritual worlds, drawing upon their own journeys to heal emotional wounds, release trapped energies, and dissolve blockages that can manifest as stress or disease.
We honor the traditional path
While we know that many modern retreats present a “spiritual buffet” of different plants and outside healing techniques to meet Western expectations. In native Amazonian shamanism, this is understood as a confusion of energies that can result in what they call cutipado. Among indigenous people, ayahuasca is regarded as a jealous plant that should not be mixed.
Ayahuasca works best alone.
When her current is crossed with other energies, the purity of her teaching is disturbed, and at times this interference can even become dangerous. To respect Ayahuasca is to trust that she is enough.
By choosing this way, we preserve the integrity of the medicine, allowing her wisdom to shine clearly. With the support of both our Peruvian shamans and international facilitators, we create a safe and sacred space for transformation.
Our ayahuasca retreat program ensures enough time for meditation, reflection and integration, ensuring that each retreat is not just an encounter with Ayahuasca, but a profound journey of healing and reconnection with one’s purpose.
How To Change Your Mind

We are honored to share that La Luna del Amazonas and our translator, Enrique, are acknowledged in the Swedish edition of Michael Pollan’s internationally acclaimed book How to Change Your Mind. This groundbreaking work explores the history, science, and spiritual dimensions of psychedelic substances (including ayahuasca) and has inspired readers worldwide to reconsider the role of these medicines in healing and personal growth. The book’s impact reached even further when it was adapted into a Netflix documentary series, which quickly rose to the Netflix Top List, bringing these conversations into millions of homes around the world. Our contribution to the Swedish translation ensured that the cultural and spiritual nuances of Amazonian plant medicine were conveyed with authenticity and respect. Being recognized in such an influential work is not only a privilege, but also a reflection of our ongoing commitment: to preserve the traditions of Amazonian shamanism while sharing them responsibly with the world.
Walking the Path Together
Here you are not treated as a customer passing through. You are welcomed into a space shaped by family, tradition, and years of devotion to this work.
If you feel called to sit with ayahuasca in a place that is intimate, grounded, and deeply connected to the roots of Amazonian healing, we welcome you to walk this path with us.
