Respect for Tradition
We are guardians of an ancient lineage. Our shamans have inherited knowledge through generations of practice, and we honor these traditions with fidelity. While we adapt certain aspects to meet the needs of international guests, we never distort, commercialize, or dilute the essence of the work. Ayahuasca is not entertainment—it is a sacred teacher, a spirit to be approached with reverence.
In many modern retreats, it has become common to offer a variety of plants, medicines, and techniques. Yet in the native science, this is seen as a confusion of energies. Ayahuasca is known as a jealous plant. She works best alone. When her current is mixed with other substances, the purity of her teaching is disturbed, and at times this interference can even become dangerous.
While we understand that some centers create a “spiritual buffet” to meet the expectations of the West, we choose a traditional path. To walk deeply with one plant is to receive far more than chasing many. To respect ayahuasca is to trust that she alone is enough.
Principles of Healing and Care
The journey with Ayahuasca is not always gentle. Some ceremonies can bring visions of beauty, others deep challenges, yet every experience carries the seed of transformation. Our approach is rooted in both ancestral knowledge and modern harm-reduction practices
Safe and Sacred Space: Our ceremonies take place in a traditional maloka, purified with kamalonga and other sacred cleansing liquids, blessed with icaros and prayers, and energetically protected by our shamans and the spirits of the rainforest.
Compassionate Guidance:Facilitators and guardians support you when needed, but never interfere with your process unless safety requires it.
Community Healing: You are not alone. The circle itself becomes a source of strength.
Integration: We provide guidance and practices to help you carry the teachings of ayahuasca back into daily life.

Every guest completes a detailed health questionnaire before arrival.
Contraindications such as heart conditions, psychiatric challenges, or incompatible medications are carefully reviewed.
A staff member trained in first aid is present at every ceremony.
In the unlikely event of an emergency, our team responds quickly and with calm care. As we are located directly on the river, we can reach a hospital in Iquitos in less than one hour.
During our 10 years of operating, we have only needed to transfer guests to Iquitos twice — both cases due to allergic reactions.

La Luna del Amazonas
Our story
The journey of La Luna del Amazonas began in 1987, when our shamans opened a small village clinic known by the humble name El Consultorio. Though simple in appearance, it was a place where the ancient forest shared her remedies and where the songs of the healers carried medicine into the hearts of those who entered. Villagers came first, seeking relief and renewal, but soon the whispers of its healing reached beyond the riverbanks, calling travelers from distant towns, then across Peru, and eventually from lands far away.
In 2016, guided by vision and trust in the medicine, Enrique encouraged Don Benigno and Don Guido to expand this modest seed into a sanctuary of greater reach. El Consultorio blossomed into what is now La Luna del Amazonas: private rooms, ceremonies led by multiple shamans, and a circle both intimate and strong. It became a place both ancient and new, deeply rooted in tradition, yet welcoming to all who seek an authentic and safe encounter with the mystery.
And then the name revealed itself. One night, after a ceremony shared with a traveler from Australia, Enrique sat in silence, watching the moon cast her luminous veil over the jungle canopy. In that moment of stillness, the vision descended: La Luna del Amazonas (The Moon of the Amazon).
The moon became our emblem, eternal and watchful, a radiant bridge between earth and spirit, jungle and soul, the vast outer night and the infinite inner sky. Beneath her glow, the medicine deepens, calling each heart into communion with the mystery of life.

The Circle of Guardianship
Every retreat is carried by a circle of dedicated roles:
Shamans: prepare the medicine, lead ceremonies, and sing the healing icaros.
Facilitators: support guests and bridge cultures.
Guardians: hold silent presence throughout the night.
Support Team: nourish body and spirit with food and care.
Together, they create the container that allows you to surrender fully to the medicine.
