Medical Guidelines
Your safety is our highest priority. Because Ayahuasca contains MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), it can interact strongly with certain medications and health conditions. For this reason, participation requires careful consideration and consultation with both your medical doctor and our team.

Medications and Interactions

Even if a medication does not cause a direct biological conflict with Ayahuasca, it may still create subtle energetic interferences or negatively affect your experience.
To ensure a safe and beneficial journey:
Always consult your physician before making any changes to your medications.
Discuss with us any treatments you are currently undergoing.
Do not discontinue prescribed medication on your own. Only your doctor can guide you safely in this matter.

Health Conditions – Participation Not Recommended
Ayahuasca is not recommended for people with serious or unstable health conditions, including:
Cardiovascular issues (uncontrolled hypertension, history of heart attack, or heart failure)
Glaucoma
Recent fractures or surgeries
Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Acute infectious diseases
Epilepsy, seizures, or history of stroke
Severe liver, kidney, or pancreatic disease
Respiratory failure
Certain psychiatric conditions (psychosis, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder)

Contraindicated Medications & Substances

The following are considered unsafe or risky in combination with Ayahuasca:
Hepatotoxic drugs or emetics
Other MAOIs (commonly found in many antidepressants)
Substances affecting the serotonergic system (e.g., MDMA and similar)
Plant snuffs such as yopo or vilca (Anadenanthera colubrina)
Sonoran Desert Toad (Incilius alvarius / Bufo alvarius) secretions
Certain psychiatric medications, including antipsychotics and mood stabilizers

Special Considerations

Antidepressants: Most require discontinuation 2–6 weeks before participating. This must be done under your doctor’s supervision.
Asthma inhalers: These are not compatible with Ayahuasca.
Illegal drugs: Absolutely prohibited before, during, and after the retreat.

Final Reminder

If you are currently taking any medication or have doubts about your eligibility, the most important step is to consult your doctor or therapist. Your health comes first, and only with professional medical guidance can you decide if this path is safe for you.

La Luna del Amazonas cannot be held responsible for decisions made regarding medication discontinuation.
