Ayahuasca is not just Banisteriopsis caapi.
From the Ayahuasca vine come three key alkaloids:
• Harmine (Telepathine)
• Harmaline
• Tetrahydroharmine (THH)
These alkaloids prepare the body and mind, allowing the medicine to work gently and deeply.
From the Chakruna leaf (Psychotria viridis) comes DMT.
Because these elements work together so powerfully, the first night is always approached with care.
A small dose.
A moment of listening.
To see how the body and energy respond.
This work is done with respect, patience, and responsibility as it has been taught for generations in the Amazon.

A maloca, a traditional communal house or structure, serves as a central meeting place for indigenous peoples in the Amazon rainforest, particularly in Colombia, Brazil, and Peru. These round or rectangular structures, with their thatched roofs made of palm leaves, provide shelter and ventilation while harmoniously blending with the surrounding environment.
Beyond serving as a venue for ceremonies, rituals, social gatherings, and educational exchanges, malocas hold immense cultural significance in many indigenous communities. They serve as spiritual centers, strengthening the community’s connection with the natural world through shared experiences and ancestral wisdom.

One of the active ingredients in Ayahuasca is the endogenous substance: DMT. It can induce altered states of consciousness, often facilitating profound transpersonal experiences.
Transpersonal experiences transcend the individual’s sense of self, connecting them to a greater whole. During ayahuasca ceremonies, participants may undergo a dissolution of ego boundaries, fostering a sense of unity with all things. This can evoke feelings of interconnectedness and universality, as well as encounters with archetypal beings or divine entities.
In essence, ayahuasca can serve as a catalyst for transpersonal experiences, bridging the gap between the individual and the cosmic, fostering healing, personal transformation and spiritual exploration.

We carefully craft our Ayahuasca brew using locally sourced ingredients and ensure the freshness of both the Ayahuasca vines and Chacruna leaves. The main compounds present in Ayahuasca are harmine, tetrahydroharmine, and harmaline. In contrast, the primary component of Chacruna leaves is DMT (dimethyltryptamine). It’s interesting to note that DMT is actually endogenous, meaning that it is naturally produced within the human body. This remarkable fact adds another layer of significance to the healing properties of Ayahuasca.

Yes, it is possible for individuals to have what can be described as a “religious experience” during an ayahuasca ceremony. The effects of ayahuasca can lead to profound spiritual insights, a sense of connection to a higher power, or even a mystical experience.
In traditional indigenous cultures, ayahuasca has long been used for spiritual purposes, often as a means of connecting with the natural world, ancestral spirits, or the divine. During ayahuasca ceremonies, participants may encounter visions or receive guidance that they perceive as deeply meaningful and transformative, akin to a religious experience.
However, it’s essential to note that experiences with ayahuasca can vary widely from person to person. Some individuals may not have a spiritual or religious experience at all, while others may find their beliefs and worldviews profoundly altered. The nature of the experience is highly personal and subjective, influenced by many factors.

Despite his advanced age of 80+, Don Benigno continues to drink the sacred ayahuasca medicine, a testament to his lifelong dedication to his craft.
Coming from the old school of vegetalistas, Don Benigno was born and raised on the border between Peru and Ecuador. Don Benigno has been an integral part of La Luna del Amazonas since its inception, sharing his vast knowledge and wisdom with students, patients, and guests from around the world. As a renowned master, he has numerous disciples and has treated countless individuals seeking healing from a wide array of ailments.

Some spiritual traditions prohibit the consumption of pork meat for various reasons, often rooted in cultural, historical, and religious beliefs.
1. In Judaism and Islam, pork is considered unclean or impure due to the pig’s perceived uncleanliness, as they are omnivores that consume almost anything.
2. In Hinduism, the pig is believed to be a reincarnation of a human soul and therefore, consuming pork is considered disrespectful and unholy.
3. In certain African spiritual practices, pigs are associated with negative energies or spirits, and consuming pork is thought to invite these energies into one’s life.
In this video Don Guido explains why we can’t eat pork when we do Ayahuasca. #ayahuasca #shamanism

In the medicinal plant tour, we get to know the achiote plant, scientifically known as Bixa orellana, stands as a testament to the intricate relationship between nature and medicine. Beyond its vibrant appearance, achiote possesses a range of medicinal properties that have been cherished by indigenous communities for generations.
A Spectrum of Health Benefits:
Achiote's vibrant red seeds have long been used for their medicinal qualities. Rich in compounds like carotenoids, flavonoids, and tocotrienols, achiote offers a spectrum of potential health benefits. Carotenoids, in particular, contribute to its striking red hue and are recognized for their antioxidant properties, which aid in neutralizing harmful free radicals in the body.
Anti-Inflammatory Support:
Traditional medicine often incorporates achiote for its potential anti-inflammatory effects. Its compounds have been studied for their ability to reduce inflammation in the body, which is linked to various chronic diseases. Incorporating achiote into the diet may contribute to overall wellness by supporting a balanced inflammatory response.
Skin Health and Protection:
Achiote's traditional uses extend to skincare as well. Indigenous cultures have employed achiote extracts as natural dyes and sunscreens. The carotenoids found in achiote offer a degree of sun protection, potentially shielding the skin from harmful UV radiation. Additionally, these compounds may promote skin health and contribute to a natural radiance.
Gastrointestinal Aid:
In some cultures, achiote seeds have been employed to support digestive health. The plant's anti-inflammatory properties may help alleviate gastrointestinal discomfort and contribute to the maintenance of a healthy gut environment.

This little beauty showed up on our medicinal plant walk today 🙂
The guacamayo, renowned as the macaw, is a dazzling avian wonder found in the lush landscapes of Central and South America. Its resplendent plumage, adorned in vivid shades of red, blue, green, and yellow, captures attention and serves as a means of communication. Highly social and remarkably intelligent, guacamayos thrive in close-knit flocks, exhibiting intricate behaviors and even mimicking human speech. Beyond their aesthetic allure, these birds play a pivotal role in ecosystem health by aiding in pollination and seed dispersal.

When the dieta is over, we get fruits 🙂
The shamanic dieta, also known as "dieta" in Spanish, is a traditional practice within indigenous Amazonian cultures, particularly among various indigenous tribes in Peru, Brazil, and other parts of the Amazon basin.
The dieta is a spiritual and healing practice that involves isolation, dietary restrictions, and the consumption of specific plants in order to establish a deep connection with the plant spirits and gain insight, healing, and knowledge. It's often used by traditional shamans or healers as a way to learn from the spirits of plants and to receive guidance, wisdom, and healing powers.
The process involves the following elements:
Isolation: During the dieta, the person undergoing the practice isolates themselves from the community and from distractions. This isolation is believed to create a more focused and receptive state of mind.
Dietary Restrictions: Dieta participants follow strict dietary guidelines, which often involve avoiding certain foods that are considered "impure" or incompatible with the plants they are working with. This might include abstaining from salt, sugar, oil, spices, and certain meats.
Plant Medicine: Central to the dieta is the consumption of specific plant medicines, which are chosen based on the shaman's guidance and the individual's intentions. These plants might include ayahuasca, tobacco, and other medicinal plants that are believed to have healing properties.
Observation and Meditation: During the dieta, participants spend a lot of time in meditation, reflection, and observation. The goal is to establish a deep connection with the plant spirits and to receive insights, visions, and guidance.
Dreams and Visions: Many participants report having vivid dreams and visions during the dieta. These experiences are often considered messages from the plant spirits and are used for guidance, healing, and self-discovery.

We went to visit La gran cieba (also called the Lupuna tree).
Its seeds, leaves and resin are used as medicinal herbs to cure fever, asthma, diarrhea or kidney problems, among others. Among indigenous people the infusion of the bark is popularly used for the treatment of cancer and inflammations.
Due to its size and presence, it occupies a very important position in the ecosystem of the Amazon rainforest.
There are numerous stories and legends around this tree. It is said that at night it is frequented by sorcerers, goblins and gigantic animals.
The tribes of the Amazon jungle agree that the Lupuna tree has at its base a large door, invisible to human eyes, which serves to communicate with the spiritual world.

Ayahuasca can help people to accept death and to alleviate the pain of losing a loved one. This is the conclusion of a study, published in Omega – Journal of Death and Dying.
http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0030222817710879?journalCode=omea&
The study aimed to explore the potential effects of ayahuasca on grief. They compared 30 people who had taken ayahuasca with 30 people who had attended peer-support groups, measuring level of grief and experiential avoidance.
They also examined themes in participant responses to an open-ended question regarding their experiences with ayahuasca.
The ayahuasca group presented a lower level of grief in the Present Feelings Scale of Texas Revised Inventory of Grief, showing benefits in some psychological and interpersonal dimensions.
Qualitative responses described experiences of emotional release, biographical memories, and experiences of contact with the deceased.
Additionally, some benefits were identified regarding the ayahuasca experiences.
These results provide preliminary data about the potential of ayahuasca as a therapeutic tool in treatments for grief.

Forest bathing and forest therapy (or shinrin-yoku) broadly means taking in, in all of one’s senses, the forest atmosphere. Not simply a walk in the woods, it is the conscious and contemplative practice of being immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of the forest. It was developed in Japan during the 1980s, and in 1982 Japan made this form of mobile meditation under the canopy of living forests a part of its national health program. Researchers, primarily in Japan and South Korea, have established a growing body of scientific literature on the diverse health benefits.
A 2017 National Taiwan University study found that a 2-hour forest bathing experience led to changes in autonomic nervous system activity and emotions. Heart rate and systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significantly lower after the short experience, while the mood scores for “tension-anxiety”, “anger-hostility”, “fatigue-inertia” and “depression-dejection” were also significantly lowered.
In the Amazon jungle, forest bathing was always a part of the daily life.
